Meet our team

Shelly S. Harkins, M.D.

Dr. Shelly S. Harkins is a family medicine physician who is the founder and chief physician for St. Elizabeth’s Hospitalist Program.

A native of North Carolina, Dr. Harkins is a graduate of East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, N.C. She completed her Family Medicine Residency training at the university’s Pitt County Memorial Hospital, where she received awards for Excellence in Geriatrics, Excellence in Rural Medicine and Outstanding OB Care, as well as being named Resident Teacher of the Year.

Dr. Harkins moved to the Belleville area in 2002 to serve on the faculty of the Saint Louis University School of Medicine’s Family Residency Program at Scott Air Force Base. As a major in the U.S. Air Force, she received The Achievement Medal for her global humanitarian mission work and The Meritorious Service Medal for her contributions to military medicine. She completed her active duty commitment in January 2006, and soon after joined               St. Elizabeth’s to found the Hospitalist Program.

Jacqueline Rickard, M.D.

Dr. Jacqueline Rickard is a family medicine physician in the        St. Elizabeth’s Hospitalist Program.

Dr. Rickard received her medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine, where she was awarded honors in pediatrics, surgery and psychiatry. She completed her family medicine residency at the university’s Family Medicine Residency program in Belleville. While there, she was named chief resident. She was awarded “outstanding family physician of the year” by the residency in 2007.

A native of St. Louis, Dr. Rickard also completed her undergraduate studies at Saint Louis University, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude.

Desiree’ Cravens-Miller, P.A. R.R.T.

Desiree’ Cravens-Miller is a certified and licensed physician assistant in the St. Elizabeth’s Hospitalist Program.

Cravens-Miller completed the Physician Assistant Program at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, where she also received a bachelor of science degree. Prior to joining St. Elizabeth’s, she served as a physician assistant for several Illinois medical practices, where she was involved in examining and diagnosing patients, ordering tests, prescribing appropriate medications and performing minor procedures.

Before attending SIY, PA program she worked as a Registered Respiratory Therapist for 15 years which included caring for pulmonary patients in adult, pediatric neonatal ICU’s served trauma team and as shift supervisor.

Jennie Rickert, R.N., M.S.N., A.P.R.N.–B.C.

Jennie Rickert is a board certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in the St. Elizabeth’s Hospitalist Program. Jennie has over fifteen years of nursing experience. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Deaconess College of Nursing and her Master’s Degree from Saint Louis University. Before she joined the Hospitalist Program, Jennie worked in the Staff Development Department at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital as a certified Clinical Nurse Specialist, providing nursing education for both the Emergency Department and Urgicare. Prior to that, she worked as a staff nurse in the Emergency Department at Barnes Jewish Hospital and the Intensive Care Unit at St. Louis Regional Medical Center.
