Belleville Hospitals Golf and Tennis Classic

The Belleville Hospitals’ Golf and Tennis Classic has become a premier golfing event and an annual tradition for many of its participants. Its success can be attributed to the dedication and talents of the committee. The first Belleville Hospitals’ Golf Classic was held on June 11, 1984, at the St. Clair Country Club. The original committee included professional golfer and former Masters Champion Bob Goalby as Honorary Chairman. Then, in 1993, the Classic was expanded to include a tennis tournament. Consequently, the event became the Belleville Hospitals’ Golf and Tennis Classic.

Since its inception, charitable contributions and involvement by the many friends and supporters of Memorial and St. Elizabeth’s Hospitals have made it possible to raise over $1.2 million. The funds generated by the annual Belleville Hospitals’ Golf and Tennis Classic help the hospitals to continue to provide the residents in the communities served by Memorial and St. Elizabeth’s Hospitals with the latest in quality healthcare services.

The Friends of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Foundation has utilized the proceeds from the Belleville Hospitals' Golf and Tennis Classic to assist in the purchase such items as the OB TraceVue™ fetal monitoring program for the St. Elizabeth’s Mother Child Department, recliners for patient rooms, as well as the ability to fund a variety of patient-care enhancement programs.

Over the past few years, Memorial and St. Elizabeth’s Hospitals have coordinated their efforts to focus on projects that benefit the missions of both hospital foundations, including the purchase of the pre-hospital 12-lead ECG/EKG equipment for our local ambulance providers and support of programs and services at The Cancer Treatment Center, jointly owned and operated by Memorial and St. Elizabeth’s hospitals.

The annual Golf Classic is held the first Monday in June at the St. Clair Country Club. The Tennis Classic is held the Friday prior at Kings Point.
