"It's All About Us" is a newly created support group for peopel with HIV/AIDS and family and friends of those affected. It is sponsored by Behavioral Healthcare Services at St. Elizabeth's Hospital.

The support group meets on Thursdays, from 5-7 p.m. in Room 722 at St. Elizabeth's and will focus on a different group affected by HIV/AIDS.

First Thursday - for males who are HIV Positive.
Second Thursday - for females who are HIV Positive.
Third Thursday - for any one in the community who wants to learn more about HIV/AIDS.
Fourth Thursday - to give support to family and friends of those affected by HIV/AIDS.

  FREE Skin Cancer Screening
Dr. James Gregory and Dr. Steven Musick, board certified dermatologists, will conduct FREE skin screenings to detect skin cancers, pre-cancerous conditions and related problems between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. at St. Elizabeth's Hospital's Outpatient Testing Center, located on the second floor of the Southern Illinois Heart Institute building.

  Early Pregnancy Class
I'm pregnant, now what? Early Pregnancy Class will cover the following topics: fetal development, common discomforts with possible solutions, warning signs and when to contact your health care provider, weight gain, nutrition, exercise and stretching, as well as signs of preterm labor and what to do if you are on bed rest.

Attend alone or with your support person. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a couple pillows.

Taught by a Dad, this class aims to answer a first time father's questions. This innovative, one-day class will provide the expectant father with tools and insights into the care of his new child. Discuss with an experienced father the important role Dad's play in infant growth and development, and common hospital practices. Meet someone who had some of the same concerns you may be having. Get the answers you need.

  Breastfeeding I & II Classes
Two class offereins are available to expectant mothers and nursing mothers. You may enroll in either class separately or combine them for a 2 night indepth learning experience. Our Certified Lactation Counselor(s) will lead both classes.

Breastfeeding I: Fundamentals
This class provides information on preparation for breastfeeding, feeding techniques, and common concerns.

Breastfeeding II: Practical Problem Solving
This class addresses issues such as which type of breast pump will best meet your needs, returning to work and other everyday problems.

Fee: $20 each class OR $35 to enroll in both

  HIV/AIDS Support Group
"It's All About Us" is a newly created support group for peopel with HIV/AIDS and family and friends of those affected. It is sponsored by Behavioral Healthcare Services at St. Elizabeth's Hospital.

The support group meets on Thursdays, from 5-7 p.m. in Room 722 at St. Elizabeth's and will focus on a different group affected by HIV/AIDS.

First Thursday - for males who are HIV Positive.
Second Thursday - for females who are HIV Positive.
Third Thursday - for any one in the community who wants to learn more about HIV/AIDS.
Fourth Thursday - to give support to family and friends of those affected by HIV/AIDS.

  Breastfeeding I & II Classes
Two class offereins are available to expectant mothers and nursing mothers. You may enroll in either class separately or combine them for a 2 night indepth learning experience. Our Certified Lactation Counselor(s) will lead both classes.

Breastfeeding I: Fundamentals
This class provides information on preparation for breastfeeding, feeding techniques, and common concerns.

Breastfeeding II: Practical Problem Solving
This class addresses issues such as which type of breast pump will best meet your needs, returning to work and other everyday problems.

Fee: $20 each class OR $35 to enroll in both

Pain control options including natural methods, medications and epidurals will be discussed. Class discussions of inductions and cesareans are also included. Both mother and her support person learn how to take an active part in the birth process.

A hospital tour of Labor and Delivery, Postpartum & Nursery is part of the schedule. Saturday classes consist of two sessions lasting four hours each. Classes are taught by an RN certified childbirth educator. The course should be taken in the last trimester of pregnancy.

The Refresher Class is designed for people who have previously attended other childbirth classes and wish to review the labor process, comfort measures, breathing techniques and the options available at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.  We do not recommend this one session class for first time moms.
