Heather Tomaszewski, RN, named 2010 Outstandint Nurse

Recognitions Award from March of Dimes
St. Elizabeth’s Maternal Child RN Heather Tomaszewski was one of five recipients of the March of Dimes 2010 Outstanding Nurse Recognition Award and received it during the annual March of Dimes Perinatal Nursing Conference in Oak Brook, IL, on Februrary 12.

This award celebrates Heather’s accomplishments as a Maternal Child Nurse including her work on the March of Dimes Pre-term Labor standardization care initiative and implementation at the hospital. She is the only winner from Southern Illinois.

St. Elizabeth’s is one of only two hospitals in Illinois to implement the initiative patterned after California’s work on this best practice. The objective is to standardize the assessment and diagnosis of preterm labor among health care professionals

Area children design Holiday Cards for St. Elizabeth's patients

The Mission Integration Committee (MIC) held a contest in early November for the children of St. Elizabeth's Hospital employees, volunteers and physicians to design Holiday Cards. A winner from each age group was chose and their cards were professionally printed for distribution to patients in the hospital during the holidays.

Carolers gathered as Kathy Shrake, Festival of Trees Chairperson, and Kevin Shrake, St. Elizabeth's Hospital President and CEO, thanked the crowd for attending and for their generosity in giving to needy families in the community during the holiday season.  At right, the Angel of Hope sculpture was unveiled later in the evening.

St. Elizabeth's Hospital hosted a new fundraising event to jumpstart the holiday season by raising money for four community service organizations throughout the metro-east. The Festival of Trees event was held on December 1.

High-tech mannequin simulator brings advanced OB staff training  Southern Illinois
St. Elizabeth's Hospital is using a high-tech mannequin with simulated childbirth scenarios to provide hands-on training to nurses and physicians in the OB Department.

St. Elizabeth's Hospital and Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation Executive show community support amid possible state budget cuts.
Illinois Governor Pat Quinn recently visited Southern Illinois to discuss possible budgets cuts and the effect they may have on area non-profits on Wednesday, May 18, 2009.

Kevin Shrake, St. Elizabeth's Hospital President, and Larry McCulley, SIHF President, visited with Governor Pat Quinn after the event to stress the importance of the many organizations that provide social services to the community.

Belleville Hospitals' Golf & Tennis Classic raises over $70,000
    The 2009 Belleville Hospitals' Golf & Tennis Classic, co-sponsored by the Friends of St. Elizabeth's Hospital and Memorial Foundation, Inc., was held on May 30 and June 2 and generated over $70,000.

   Proceeds from this year's Classic have been designated for use by the Cancer Treatment Center, in Swansea, to support Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT). This IGRT uses the latest technology for imaging and targeting of radiation therapy delivery that allows for millimeter precision.

   Special thanks to Natalie Jablonski, Development Specialist, and all the volunteers for their efforts in making the event successful.
